By Maria Victoria, Paradisus Resort Wedding Expert

We all have the age-old mantra engraved in our memory, but sometimes it’s easy to forget just how much work goes into planning that special day. With summer wedding season in full swing, here are my top five quick tips to planning your dream summertime wedding. By following these helpful hints, your pre-nuptial period will be as easy as saying “I do.”

1. Plan Ahead – To ensure that your special day is exactly the way you envisioned it, you need to start planning as early as possible so you don’t get locked out of your dream venue or caterer. If you want to get married next summer, start planning now! After all, the early bird catches the bouquet…

2. Organization is Key – Oftentimes, the first step in planning a wedding is finding the right wedding coordinator, even if you opt for a destination wedding. Paradisus Resort’s Romance Planners will work with you to make sure your wedding runs smoothly. From booking date to departure, our Romance Team is available to cater to your every wedding wish.

3. Do Your Research – Before you finalize any plans, make sure you’re doing your homework by comparing your top choice of venue, caterer, florist, etc. to their competitors. Lay out all your options and make the best, educated decision for your personal style and budget.

4. Choose Your Style – Whether you want a small, intimate beach celebration or the elaborate fantasy, fairytale wedding, it’s important to decide what type of wedding you envision for yourself from the beginning. Paradisus Resorts have wedding packages to meet the needs of any bride. Chill-Out Chic, Aqua, Fantasy Packages are all memorable and romantic in their own right – what kind of a Paradisus bride-to-be are you?

5. Enjoy! – It’s easy to get caught up in the madness of planning a wedding, but make sure to try your best and enjoy every second of the process. A wedding at Paradisus Resorts allows you the convenience of booking a wedding and honeymoon in one, eliminating any unnecessary stress from your wedding bliss. Before you know it, you’ll be sitting at home with your new spouse wishing you could do it all over again!

Brand’s new five star all-inclusive luxury resort is scheduled to open July 2013, superseding the former Paradisus Playa Conchal in Guanacaste

Palma de Mallorca, Spain – Paradisus Resorts, the five star all-inclusive luxury hotel brand owned and operated by Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts, announced today the development of a new property in Papagayo Bay, Costa Rica, scheduled to open in July 2013. The new build, aptly named Paradisus Papagayo Bay and constructed in partnership with SunVesta Holding AG a Swiss based Private Equity, Consulting and Development group, represented by their subsidiary Richland Investments Ltd. and their Costa Rican partner DIA S.A., supersedes the former Paradisus Playa Conchal in Guanacaste operated by the brand until April 30th, 2011.

The new property is part of the brand’s master expansion plan, which includes the opening of two resorts in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in November 2011, and aims to solidify Paradisus Resorts as a leader in the luxury all-inclusive market segment. Furthermore this new portfolio addition allows Sol Meliá to capitalize on the tremendous recognition the brand has in the region, due largely to the 15 years of experience in the destination, while building significant equity on Paradisus’ behalf.

“The introduction of Paradisus Papagayo Bay to the Costa Rican market is the ideal opportunity to continue elevating Sol Meliá’s portfolio, while embodying the vision of our brand as a hospitality leader in the luxury all-inclusive sector,” said Alvaro Tejeda Schroeder, SVP of the Premium Portfolio and Operations for Sol Group’s Hotels & Resorts in The Americas. “We had tremendous success as pioneers with Paradisus Playa Conchal and the superior product Paradisus Papagayo Bay brings to the region will continue the brand’s successful development of Guanacaste as a luxury destination.”

Located on the Northern Province of Guanacaste, Paradisus Papagayo Bay is being developed on 21 hectares of dramatic landscape, complying with all five star resort specifications. The 381-room eco-luxury resort’s design cascades to the beach below on one of the world’s most stunning bays. Featuring breathtaking views from virtually any location on the property, its five restaurants and five bars will provide guests with multiple settings in which to enjoy food and beverage while admiring the region’s natural beauty. The resort will boast many of Paradisus’ brand assets including a YHI Spa and Health Club, the renowned adults-only “Royal Service” level of accommodations and the “Family Concierge” program. In addition to amenities that cater to the leisure guest, Paradisus Papagayo Bay will also feature 19,000 square feet of meeting facilities with the business traveler in mind.

“SunVesta and DIA are thrilled to be partnering with Paradisus Resorts on this project, where we will combine high-end luxury with a sustainable eco-friendly development concept, resulting in a world-class eco-luxury resort with the highest service standards,” commented Josef Mettler, President and CEO of the SunVesta Group. “We believe in investing in prime locations and working with the best companies to achieve the best ecological and financial results, and this project couldn’t be a better example of our credo.”

“We are proud to be a part of SunVesta and Paradisus Resorts’ extraordinary project at Papagayo Bay,” commented José Manuel Agüero, President of DIA. “As SunVesta’s Costa Rican partner our excellent local network will contribute to this development’s great success.”

SunVesta has enlisted the services of WingField Corporation Inc. as master developer of Paradisus Papagayo Bay. “This is a truly exceptional project,” WingField President Henk Habers said, “It is destined to be one of Central America’s premier resorts.”

WingField was instrumental in the negotiations leading to the transaction realization in its capacity of advisor to SunVesta. “We are looking forward to the commencement of this project and to future cooperation with SunVesta and Sol Meliá,” said Dean Johnson, Chairman and CEO of WingField.

Paradisus Resorts, known for exuding sophistication and luxury prides itself on the no-hassle, premium service upscale vacation experience. In addition to Paradisus’ existing five properties in the Americas, expansion plans include the opening of two resorts in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and the development of a property in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil in the next three years. Paradisus is projected to double its portfolio of properties by 2013.

featuring: Teresa Calcos-Boileau, Destination Romance Coordinator, Canada

A Dream Wedding for My Son…
I have been working for Paradisus on their Romance Team for three years helping hundreds of couples plan their big day, but “NOTHING” could have ever prepared me for the wonderful, emotional, journey of planning a destination wedding for my own son.
Wearing two hats as both mother and planner was not easy, as the idea of a destination wedding was unconventional to my son’s new family. However, this was what both of the kids wanted and there was no deterring them from their dream of becoming husband and wife on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

So our journey began with an engagement present from me, one week at Paradisus Palma Real so my son and his future wife could be assured that the standards they expected were going to be met. After one day on the property, both Jason and Angela (the bride and groom) were confident, that both her parents and all of the invited guests would be more then satisfied with the choice they had made.

And so the planning began, we chose Naos Beach as our ceremony site and GABi Beach as our cocktail and reception venue. With over 100 anticipated guests and my future daughter in law’s exquisite taste, I knew this would have to be a custom planned event. Every bride has something they have been dreaming about since they were a little girl for their wedding, with Angela it was flowers, hundreds and hundreds of flowers. Angela sent me pictures of what she had in mind and I went directly to one of our magnificent vendors, Caribbean Celebrations. They accepted the challenge of creating the bride’s vision of a custom beach canopy and rose petal filled isle.

The plated menu choice for our reception was easy, as all of the dining options on the property are spectacular. We chose a surf and turf dinner of steak and lobster for our guests, followed by a few dessert options- a flowing chocolate fountain surrounded by tropical fruits and cookies as well as a spectacular custom fondant wedding cake. The night before the ceremony we had a private rehearsal dinner for our closest family and the bridal party. It was moving and emotional as we all shared our well wishes for the next day. The service was exceptional as the staff kept guests happy and attended to each and every request flawlessly!

We awoke the next morning to sunshine, a glorious day to have a ceremony on the beach. The on-site operations of Paradisus’ amazing romance team were in full gear preparing all I had designed, what developed was a ceremony and reception venue beyond my greatest expectations. As I walked my son barefoot down the aisle on a bed of rose petals, I gave him his last kiss as a single man and left him standing at the altar to wait for his bride to join him. There are no words to describe how a mother feels looking at the love in her sons face as his bride walks down the beach towards him; I was speechless.

After champagne toasts and congratulations, and pictures by a perfect sunset sky it was off to GABi terrace for our cocktail party. Upon arrival, guests enjoyed a signature drink of Blue Curacao, vodka and pineapple juice that they affectionately named “Our Blue Heaven.” The looks on the guests’ faces upon entering the open-air room ensured me that this was well beyond what they had expected of a destination wedding. GABi Beach was transformed into a romantic, intimate, venue well beyond even what I had expected. The party lasted for hours as everyone danced and enjoyed the celebration, the night was perfect.

I have witnessed and planned hundreds of weddings, but now that I have experienced the full planning and operations from a guest’s perspective I have a whole new appreciation for my brides and their families. As a mother, I cannot express enough gratitude for all of the management and staff at Paradisus Palma Real and our amazing vendors for helping orchestrate the plans I had for my son’s wedding week. Everyone went above and beyond to ensure all our guests had a great time. The hospitality shown by Paradisus Palma Real staff for our guests has left all with a longing to return.

Yoga is a great way to enhance physical strength while releasing stress, making it the ultimate full body workout. The Yhi Spa at Paradisus Resorts in the Dominican Republic encourages guests to treat themselves to beauty and spa treatments as well as beachfront yoga classes that provide physical and mental strength and relaxation.

An invigorating workout that can help restore, improve and maintain physical health, yoga also increases flexibility and muscle tone. Ongoing practice of yoga helps individuals release stress and tension while strengthening the body. The practice of yoga consists of a collection of strengthening and toning positions that challenges the body both physically and mentally. The beauty of the workout is that it allows the individual to practice at their own strength level, offering positions of varying degrees of difficulty for a more challenging experience.

Yhi Spa offers guests the opportunity to try various yoga classes that meet their level of comfort and personal need. The most popular class, Yoga Move Basic, is great for beginners who want to give yoga a try for the first time. This class focuses on the foundations of yoga through the instruction of basic stretches and positions. We also offer Prana Yoga recommended for guests with respiratory health concerns as it practices breath control and regulation.

For those looking for more of a challenge the Yhi Spa recommends Power Yoga challenging balance and energy, or Hatha Yoga, which combines strengthening positions with meditation for the more flexible! Meditation and massage classes are also recommended for guests and available every Sunday.

Beachfront classes are offered in the morning by request, while all other classes are available in the gym. Guests can enjoy classes for $25 for adults and $30 for kids. Yoga is great for beginners to learn something new on vacation, or for the more experienced yoga practitioner to grow their practice and enjoy this great workout with a beachfront view!

As the days get shorter and the warm air leaves for another winter’s hibernation many may find themselves looking for warmer weather. The new season has brought big changes to Paradisus Punta Cana with complete room renovations to 112 Royal Service Suites; all rooms at the property will be fully renovated by 2012. Paradisus guests will enjoy the best of the Caribbean surrounded by chic contemporary island designs bringing luxury and relaxation to the next level.

[[Show as slideshow]]
The new rooms’ decor provides guests with a truly authentic experience, as we have designed the rooms with distinctly modern touches featuring local artwork from Dominican artists and organic elements. Each room is equipped with 32-inch flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations and full mini bar and espresso coffee machines. The new bathrooms feature double rain showerheads and state-of-the art vinyl walling with ocean life detailing that gives guests the feeling of being transported to the Caribbean Sea. For a more personal touch, guests will now enjoy an array of luxurious Arte bath products, fully stocked in the new rooms.

Fifty-two of the renovated rooms offer private gardens with select rooms featuring personal jacuzzis giving guests the ultimate indulgence. The renovations, completed at the end of last year, are just in time for winter vacation season and some much needed rest and relaxation. And if you can’t join us this year in the Dominican Republic to experience our makeover you can look forward to the same treatment and decadence in the rooms of our brand new Paradisus Resorts, opening in Riviera Maya, Mexico in late 2011.

An Interview by Posh Mom

On a recent trip to Paradisus we transformed our exhausted minds and worn down bodies (how many sports bags can we lug behind the kids?) into a state of blissful relaxation and baby soft skin. But then a funny thing happened on the way to the airport to go home. Our necks got stiff from kids complaining and the dry airplane air had us de-boarding feeling like lizards. That got us thinking about all the moms coming home after a hopefully relaxing holiday vacation–just how can we and they re-gain some of the Zen feeling back home before we actually return to the paradise of a Paradisus Resort? We talked with Daniela Pranjic, Yhi Spa Manager at Paradisus Palma Real in the Dominican Republic for spa treatments of the Caribbean that can be re-created at home. The answers to our questions were more than helpful, now we just need to find the time. . .

Posh Mom:
What are the best ingredients that you can find right in your refrigerator or pantry that have natural beautifying properties?

Daniela:
Cucumber: has a cooling, hydrating and soothing effect on the skin.
Carrot: is perfect for oily skin and helps prevent wrinkles.
Avocado: is particularly great for mature, wrinkled and dry skin. It’s best to use a ripe, fresh, organic avocado.
Honey: is a humectant, which means it attracts and retains water. Honey is also an anti-irritant and suitable for sensitive skin.
Oatmeal: soothes the skin and it adds texture for gentle exfoliation.
Lemon and Tomato: fight and keep acne at bay and are good at cutting grease and highly astringent.
Olive Oil: helps the skin to be more soft and supple.

Posh Mom:
What are ingredients to look for in a store-bought moisturizer for winter months?

Daniela:
Shea Butter: contains beneficial oils and nutrients to seal in your skin’s moisture, while providing a protective barrier from the cold. It is your best choice.

Almond oil: is good for dry skin and its excellent emollient properties help the skin to balance the loss and absorption of moisture. It is a natural moisturizer, skin softener and conditioner. It is high in minerals, protein and vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6 and E).

Something that you can do easily at home: add naturally moisturizing ingredients like oatmeal, milk, honey or essential oils to your bath water.

Posh Mom: Are there any secret pre-treatments for getting pedicure polish to last?

Daniela:
* Show up to your appointment already showered and clean, showering too soon afterwards can peel polish.
* You should bring a pair of flip flops to wear home so that you do not smudge the polish. Drying at the salon is never sufficient, unless you plan on spending hours there.
* apply color in a thin coat.
Posh Mom: Give us your top three easiest ways to re-create spa treatments in the home

Daniela:

1. To get rid of dead cells on skin try this Pumpkin and Brown Sugar Scrub that you can prepare at home

Grate half a pumpkin, mix it with a cup of brown sugar and three teaspoons of olive oil. Massage gently all over your body. The result is soft and moisturized skin.

2. Contrast showers by alternating between hot and cold water.

This method detoxifies and improves the circulatory system and the immune system. It increases blood circulation and tones the skin. It also helps to restore energy.
3. Apply your moisturizing body cream with a massage

Take five minutes to apply your moisturizing cream with a massage; it improves the absorption into the skin and prevents absorption into your clothing!

Planning the perfect wedding can be a large undertaking, which is why the Romance Team at Paradisus takes care of all the hard work for guests to make sure their big day is truly magical and stress free. Newlyweds Adrienne and Pete Lenz knew they wanted a destination wedding with friends and family, and found a perfect fit in one of the many wedding packages offered at Paradisus Palma Real.

The couple worked with Noelia Moreno, the on-site Romance Coordinator at Paradisus Palma Real, and Teresa Calcos, Romance Planner, prior to arrival to the resort, to plan a beautiful beachfront wedding in April 2010. Adrienne and Pete selected the Aqua package allowing them to get married right along the water’s edge with family and friends in attendance. Followed by a cocktail party and reception at the chic Gabi Beach, the beachfront ceremony was the perfect backdrop to their dream wedding.

“The Romance Team was terrific from the second we got to the resort,” said Adrienne. “Most of the details were already planned, so we only had to spend an hour or so going over last minute details. They worked hard to make sure our wedding [was] so special and we truly appreciate it.”

Whether it is a simple yet elegant event like the Lenz’s, or an extravagant fantasy wedding brought to life, the resort’s dedicated Romance Team takes care of it all down to the last detail. With four great wedding packages to choose from including Aqua, Chill Out Chic, Fantasy and Wish, a wedding at Paradisus is sure to be a unique romantic escape your guests will cherish forever.

“The day was memorable because our dream was coming true by having an absolutely gorgeous wedding, on the beach, with our family and friends by our side,” said Adrienne and Pete. “The day and time we spent at Paradisus Palma Real was exactly what we wanted!”

Paradisus Resort Wedding Expert

Paradisus Resort’s in-house Romance Specialists will work with you to make sure your wedding runs smoothly. From booking date to departure, Romance Specialists are available on-site at each Paradisus property to cater to your every wedding wish.

The Chill-Out Chic, The Aqua, The Fantasy and The Wish Packages are all memorable and romantic in their own right – what kind of a Paradisus bride-to-be are you?
